Hossein Pishkar is an Iranian conductor born in Tehran in 1988, who grew up with traditional Persian music before studying composition in Tehran and later conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. In 2017 he won both the German Conducting Award (Deutscher Dirigentenpreis) and the Ernst-von-Schuch Prize, launching an international career spanning orchestras across Europe and beyond. He has a strong connection to the Royal Danish Opera, where he has conducted Carmen, The Nose, Aida and La Clemenza di Tito.
Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra announced Pishkar as guest conductor in the 2026/27 season, where he leads a program with Berlioz and Schubert.
Pishkar is appointed as jury member at the Pehlivanian International Conducting Competition 2026.
In the 2025/26 season, Pishkar makes his debut with Haydn Philharmonic in Bolzano, Janáček Philharmonic in Ostrava and Lithuanian Opera, and returns to, among others, Belgrade Philharmonic and Qatar Philharmonic.
Pishkar conducted the Royal Chapel at the New Year's concert at the Opera House in Copenhagen on December 31, 2024.
Pishkar conducted Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen in a new production directed by Jetske Mijnssen.
