Paradise Jazz: Veronika Rud and Lis Wessberg - Opening Concert in BRØK
Paradise Jazz opens the season with a double concert: first Veronika Rud in an intimate trio setup, then Lis Wessberg / Yellow Map in their original quartet lineup.
Lis Wessberg is a Danish jazz trombonist and composer who graduated from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen in 1991 and has since appeared on more than 50 albums as a sideperson. With her band Yellow Map - pianist Steen Rasmussen, bassist Lennart Ginman and drummer Jeppe Gram - she stepped out as a leader with the debut album Yellow Map (2021, April Records), followed by Twain Walking (2024) and In the Wake of Blue (2026). Her playing is marked by a singer-like warmth of tone, and her compositions sit at a cinematic crossroads of cool jazz, electronic texture and Nordic lyricism.
Lis Wessberg released her third solo album In the Wake of Blue (April 17, 2026, April Records) with vocalist Veronika Rud and a string quartet.
In connection with the album release, Wessberg and Veronika Rud toured in Denmark with concerts including at Hotel Cecil in Copenhagen, Skive Jazzklub and Kulturværftet in Helsingør.
The single "Behind the Walls" from the album Twain Walking was nominated for Single of the Year at Danish Music Awards Jazz 2024, and Wessberg performed at the awards ceremony at VEGA on December 9, 2024.
Yellow Map released the second-generation album Twain Walking on April 12, 2024 on April Records, with Estonian vocalist Karmen Rõivassepp on two tracks.
Wessberg and Yellow Map toured in the United Kingdom under the Sounds of Denmark umbrella in spring 2024 in connection with the release of Twain Walking.
