Shining is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band from Oslo, founded in 1999 by Jørgen Munkeby as an acoustic jazz quartet. Over the years the band has undergone a radical sonic transformation, fusing free jazz, industrial metal and progressive rock into a genre Munkeby coined 'Blackjazz'. The 2010 album of the same name remains their defining statement, and Munkeby is the sole constant member throughout the band's history.
Shining released a new single and music video 'North' on August 6, 2026, recorded by the band themselves in the Norwegian mountains.
The band performed on August 7, 2026 at the Bloodstock Open Air festival in the United Kingdom.
Shining confirmed on their website that a new album is on the way and is expected to be released in spring/summer 2026.
The song 'Animal' received massive exposure when it was used in season 2 of the HBO Max series Peacemaker, directed by James Gunn.
Shining played a Blackjazz anniversary concert in front of 15,000 spectators at Hellfest in France.
