OPENING CONCERT: Mozart - Between Sorrow & Light
Opening concert of Frederiksberg Festspil with Stenhammar Quartet and pianist Katrine Gislinge exploring Mozart's works for piano and string quartet.
The Stenhammar Quartet is a Swedish string quartet founded in Stockholm in 2002, widely regarded as one of Scandinavia's leading chamber ensembles. Named after composer Wilhelm Stenhammar, the group was the first to record his complete quartet cycle on CD, including the previously unpublished F minor quartet. Their repertoire runs from the Classical period to newly commissioned works, with regular collaborations with Nordic composers such as Anders Hillborg, Kaija Saariaho and Bent Sørensen. In 2009 the Royal Swedish Academy of Music commended the ensemble for its contributions to Swedish music.
Stenhammar Quartet released on BIS Records the first part of a planned two-part recording with string quartets by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho (quartets no. 1-3).
The quartet toured in Canada in 2024 and performed in Winnipeg, among other places, with two world premieres of new Canadian music.
BIS Records released a box set with Stenhammar Quartet's complete recordings of Wilhelm Stenhammar's string quartets.
The quartet's album with quartets by Ravel and Debussy on Alba Records was nominated for the Swedish Grammis Prize.
