About the venue

Bank- og Sparekassemuseet occupies the listed Heerings Gaard on the Christianshavn canal, where the Heering family distilled their famous Cherry Heering liqueur for five generations until the late 1980s. The permanent exhibition "Penge - dine, mine og vores" (Money - yours, mine and ours) traces Danish banking history from 19th-century teller counters to online banking, with highlights including a fully furnished bank branch from around 1900 and C.F. Tietgen's office. The old barrels remain in the cellar, and since 2024 the museum also holds the former collection of some 3,500 piggy banks from Sparebøssemuseet in Randers. Admission is free.
