Cultural Institutions Between Woke and Anti-Woke

Cultural institutions serve as arenas for democratic debate - but in a polarized world, that arena is under pressure.

In 2023, Frederiksberg Library became the center of a heated debate about gender identity when the library, based on a children's book, put identity on the agenda, including a drag show for children. Tina Pihl was then head of the library in Frederiksberg. In this lecture, she traces the societal developments behind the debate and examines the role of cultural institutions. Tina Pihl holds a Ph.D. in modern culture and is head of culture, leisure and volunteering in Sorø Municipality.

The event is free but requires booking a seat - either at the library or here on the website. The lecture takes place on the 1st floor with access via stairs and elevator. There are parking options on Storgade and the square (time-limited), several disabled parking spaces on Storgade - including two at the Library Gate entrance to Den Grønne Scene - as well as parking in Munkevænget and at Holbergarkaden with entrance from Rolighedsvej.
