Censorship is not just a thing of the past. In the USA, thousands of books are removed from libraries because interest groups oppose depictions of sexuality or racial discrimination, while "LGBT propaganda" is simply banned by law in Russia. In both countries, it is about identity-political censorship - but while pressure in the USA comes from organized citizen groups, in Russia it comes from the state itself.

Dennis Meyhoff Brink examines, based on his research, what book censorship looks like today in both the USA and Russia.

Dennis Meyhoff Brink is a Ph.D. and researcher in satire and censorship specializing in banned books. He is affiliated with DIS - Danish Institute for Study Abroad and has previously been a postdoc and external lecturer at the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen. He leads a research group at the Center for Modern European Studies (CEMES) at the University of Copenhagen and sits on the board of the EU-supported consortium "Democratic Literacy and Humour". He also writes for Weekendavisen and has written drama for the theatre Sort/Hvid in Copenhagen.

Practical information:

Parking: There are good parking options around Sorø Library & City Office. On Storgade and the square, you can park for a limited time, and there are several disabled parking spaces on Storgade, including two at the Library entrance to Den Grønne Scene. You can also park at Munkevænget and at Holbergarkaden with access from Rolighedsvej.

Elevator: The event is held on the 1st floor, which is accessible by stairs or elevator.

Waiting list: If the event is sold out, you can put yourself on a waiting list. If tickets are released, you will receive an email from Place2book, and it is first come, first served.

Cancellation: If you cannot attend an event you have purchased a ticket for, please cancel it so the spot can go to someone else.
