Store VEGA is the main concert hall at VEGA - Musikkens Hus in the Vesterbro district, which opened in 1996 as part of Copenhagen's year as European Capital of Culture. The building dates from 1956 and was designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen - also responsible for the Radiohuset - under the name Folkets Hus; it is now a listed building. The hall holds up to 1,500 standing and is where the bigger mainstream acts perform, across genres from rock and pop to hip-hop and jazz. With around 350 concerts a year, VEGA ranks among Denmark's largest music venues.
