Hvideslægten's Manor at Kirke Fjenneslev

Museum inspector and medieval archaeologist Martin Pavón from Museum Vestsjælland presents a lecture on the National Museum's excavations from 1891 at the Hvideslægten family's main estate in Kirke Fjenneslev.

Most people know that the Hvideslægten family has its roots in Kirke Fjenneslev and that their manor lay just north of the village church - today marked by a memorial grove. Less well known are the National Museum's excavations at the site in 1891, where a cellar from a residential building was investigated. This building housed Asser Rig and Inger, as well as their sons Absalon and Esbern Snare and others.

This evening's lecture focuses on these excavations. Martin Pavón reviews the excavation process itself and places the findings in relation to the latest archaeological and historical knowledge about Fjenneslev, the Hvideslægten family, manor estates, and villages from the Viking Age and Middle Ages.
