The Danish Language Today

What is actually happening to Danish dialects - are they disappearing? Have emojis and social media language replaced what we know as Danish, and are English loanwords damaging the language? Is young people's speech filled with profanity, and do generations agree on whether one can say the "n-word" - or is it "formand" or "forperson"?

Senior researcher at the Danish Language Council, Marianne Rathje, has spent many years following how Danes speak and the changes the language is undergoing. This evening she shares her insights into the trends shaping the language today. The lecture concludes with a look at five words that can reveal your age, and five suggestions for small linguistic facelifts if you want to keep up with the times.
