Hilal Kaya is known for collaborations with Kalaha and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and now steps forward with her own band and new material.

The music moves between Anatolian traditions, jazz, roots and afrobeats. The band features Søren Bigum on guitar (Peter Sommer, Jonah Blacksmith, Hudna), Orhan Özgür Turan on oud and ba'lama (Sorten Muld, Ipek Yolu, Hudna), Søren Poulsen on drums and percussion (Peter Sommer, Jonah Blacksmith), Henrik Poulsen on bass (Peter Sommer, Vega Strauss Band), and Hilal Kaya herself on vocals and acoustic guitar (Haluk Levent, Kalaha, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra).

The constellation has performed at Resonator Festival in Odense, among other venues. P8 Jazz has released a recording with the band as part of the "P8 Jazz Sessions" series:

About the venue: Mejeriet

Mejeriet is Sønderborg's youth culture house, set in a renovated early-20th-century dairy building - hence the name. It caters to young people aged 15 to 30 and includes a concert hall (a black box of around 170 m²), a lounge, a music studio, two meeting rooms, a workshop room and an inner courtyard. Concerts and open-stage nights are open to all ages. The venue sits directly opposite the regional concert hall Sønderborghus.

Fredericia-born guitarist Søren Bigum - alias "Piper" - has shaped the Danish music scene as a fixture in Our Broken Garden and as a session player for Peter Sommer and Jonah Blacksmith, among others. He balances stage work at the Royal Danish Theatre with teaching at RMC and his own ongoing solo output.
