Kvarterhuset in the Amagerbro district is a municipal culture house that opened in 2001 inside a converted factory building from 1880, originally built for L.P. Holmblad's industrial works. The renovation and extension were designed by architect Dorte Mandrup, whose striking assembly hall sits on the second floor amid a forest of sloping concrete columns. The building houses Sundby Library, citizen services, a youth school and a café, with a programme ranging from concerts and children's theatre to literary events and monthly art exhibitions. In summer, outdoor concerts and street theatre take over the courtyard.
